Homeschool Has Begun

It's 2:45 and I am calm!  The house is a bit messy, but I am calm!  Last year would have found me taking deep breaths throwing umpteen bags into the car and getting ready to run my marathon of afternoon/evening activities including a miriad of carpool lines, drum practice, chess club, soccer, basketball, snacks, potty breaks,  screaming two-year-old wanting to get out of the car, homework, dinner, shower, and then bed.  Did I say they were MY afternoon activities?   And today...today school is done. Snacks are out, my two year old is getting a full nap, dinner is prepped and we've got two hours before we have to be anywhere.  My kids are out building a squirrel trap and I'm posting on my blog.  Can you believe it?!!  I know there will be days when it's crazy and no one wants to listen to teacher mom, but right now it is good.  And we needed it.
Last Wednesday afternoon was our first extended nature study.  The kids were so excited to head down to the Salmon Creek Trail.  We brought our trusty Handbook of Nature Study and our nature notebooks. The kids caught and identified little trout, water gliders, boatmen, and a bug that is still yet to be determined.  There is a great debate going on at our house over the identity of this bug.

You go girl! I can't wait to hear more about your journey into this...you've peaked my interest in something I NEVER thought I'd remotely be interested in.

I have been holding out on that book since it is a little pricey but I finally broke down and bought it. We'll see how it measures up but our bug collection is coming along quite nicely. Looking forward to hear how you do it will all 4. I LOVE Ambleside!
