Celebrating Family {portland family photographer, pearl district}

As soon as their car door opened and L came dancing out of it, I knew this was going to be a fun shoot. Scratch that...an Ah-mazing shoot. And that could very well be an understatement.

With a smile as wide as the Mississsippi, L came dancing out of her car cheering her family on. And then out they poured each brimming with personality and style.

If I could write a script for the perfect family session this would be it. When I shoot families my hope is that they would treat our time together as a celebration of how special their family is and my camera would document their laughing, running, hugging, kissing, and lots and lots of giggling. Kids would look back at the pictures and remember hot chocolate, cookies, and love.

After the shoot was over, the D family spent the rest of the day in P-town enjoying the sites and most of all enjoying eachother. PERFECT! If you have an upcoming family session, why not make a day of it where I play with you for a few hours and then you spend the rest of the day as a family doing what you love best?

Family is so special. Sometimes we get lost in the business of our lives confusing car time with quality time, seeing annoyances instead of beauty, fixing mistakes instead instead of celebrating little successes, and shuffling off to bed instead of relishing one last cuddle. If you are reading this, grab one of your little ones, look them deep in the eye and spend a minute celebrating them. Exchange a butterfly kiss or two, make them smile, and never let them forget how incredibly special they are.

That love is what I strive to capture. That love is what my lens longs to celebrate.
