My Girl

She won't let me show you the last shot.  She doesn't want to talk about the last shot.  Why?  Because mommy was right and she just doesn't want to talk about it.  The mystery last shot?  No it's not some silly pose or goofy smile that might get some mom's frustrated.  It's a shot of a scraped up chin, fat lip, and bloody mouth.
My little girl would not take my warnings and kept running on the pea gravel- even after her little brother fell twice!  Stubborn?!  Not thinking?!  Refusing to listen?!!  I'm not sure which it was but this I know.  She was running full speed, tripped over her fallen brother and went chin first onto the pavement.  I saw the bodies lying on top of each other and the dust cloud about them and went running to the scene.  To my complete surprise my "drama queen in the making" quickly got up, raised her chin in the air, and briskly walked towards the car.
I looked at her, she looked at me.  The look in her eyes told me that she knew we both knew this would not have happened if she had heeded my warnings, but she refused to shed a tear and simply pleaded , "I don't want to look.  Please tell me it's not bleeding."  And then later, "I didn't listen, but I think this is what tough means."  What do I do with that?!!
As we were washing the dirt out of her scraped up chin I was wishing some lessons weren't so hard to learn.

What a beauty! And yes, sometimes life's lessons are hard lessons, but at least, it seems, she learned. And aren't you glad you got those beautiful shots 1st?
